Brian Wildsmith’s Vivid Picture Books

July 21st, 2011

Most recently, we are relishing Brian Wildsmith’s books.

He is a classic writer and illustrator of many children’s books from the 1960’s onward. As a father of four children, he strongly believes that “beautiful picture books are vitally important in subconsciously forming a child’s visual appreciation, which will bear fruit later in life.” He hopes young people will wonder at the world and appreciate the beauty in nature.

After a recent visit to our local library we were able to pick up five of his most popular books. We are not sure who enjoys the detail of his paintings more, the children or us as parents.
We don’t envision ourselves ever growing tired of the light and color in his beautiful art work.

The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore iPad App Trailer from Moonbot Studios on Vimeo.

We were intrigued by “The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore,” a wonderfully innovative and successful iPad application for children that sparks their curiosity, and lets them play, without just jabbing buttons. John Pavlus of FastCompany.com, a writer and filmmaker, reviewed the app as “a well-written bedtime story and an immersive animated movie at once — without being ‘too much’ of either.” You can buy the app in the itunes App Store for $4.99

“I Am Here” Map

June 29th, 2011

I Am Here Map

As kids, we’ve rolled our Matchbox cars through an imaginary town, used a couch as a cliff or carpet as a forest. The I Am Here Map brings a little reality to your kids’ imagination. The I Am Here Map digitally prints your actual neighborhood map in a way that easily understood by your little ones. It gives them a chance to learn where they actually are while playing.

Sayl

In March we’re moving to a pretty cool new space down the street from our current office. In anticipation of the move, we’ve ordered a set of the new Herman Miller Sayl chairs. So cool! The frameless back chair was Designed by Yves Behar and inspired by the principles of suspension bridges.

Pictured is the configuration that we chose for our office. We can’t wait to try them out.

The Original Tree Swing

The Original Tree Swing

We all love to get back to the basics and while many children’s products are still being made to be bigger and shinier, we think this simple tree swing makes us want to be kids again. The Original Tree Swing is a family owned and operated business born from the desire to create creative play for children and the young of heart. All their products are made from local reclaimed wood and natural fibers. If your child isnt into the tree swing stage yet, we recommend their Castle blocks or every bigger boys dream: the old time sling shot.

Manimal

Who doesn’t adore a baby bootie?! Let alone a hand made moccasin.
We are partial to the designs by Manimal. A small operation in Brooklyn, N.Y.

This winter, our baby’s feet have stayed cozy with a much loved fleece-lined pair.

It appears they are working on styles for spring so if you are expecting, don’t you worry, baby toes need to stay bundled all year round. They have beautiful styles for adults as well.
